Food Allergies and Intolerances
UB recognises that some people suffer from hypersensitivity to certain foods and ingredients. In some cases, the reaction to the consumption of even microscopic amounts can be life threatening. In addition, there are people who are intolerant of some foods and ingredients. These reactions may not be life threatening, but they are undesirable and to be avoided.
As a responsible food manufacturer, UB believes our pack labels, together with additional support information, should enable consumers to make an informed choice on this issue.
When present as an ingredient at any level in a product, all allergens outlined by European legislation will be clearly labelled on pack. In addition to a range of tight controls and procedures to minimise cross-contamination risks, UB pack labels will warn that a product “may contain” allergens if there is an unavoidable risk – e.g. where a product which has no allergens in its ingredients has been produced on equipment that was previously used to manufacture products containing allergens. As a result, there is potential for accidental and unavoidable presence of allergens, despite control measures and cleaning of equipment. UB will provide this advice immediately beneath the ingredient declaration on the pack.
