Corporate Responsibility

UB takes Corporate Responsibility extremely seriously. Progress is monitored annually through the Corporate Responsibility Index operated by Business in the Community. UB has maintained a Platimum grading for the last two years. UB recognises that improving corporate responsbility can work in harmony with improving the business generally.  It has taken the step of deliberately embedding its corporate responsbility agenda within normal business operations so that corporate responsibility is not seen as a separate entity but as 'business as usual'.

In 2008, UB launched an environmental programme choosing goals that exceeded industry standards and that could focus the business on improving its environmental footprint.   We have made great progress and have already had to increase some of our targets or have been able to bring delivery dates forward.

In 2009, we also rolled out a community programme with an emphasis on skills development for new  and existing employees to help address skills shortages, particularly in the science and engineering fields. As part of the community programme, UB is also focusing on helping employees support local community projects while providing a great working environment for our employees and looking after their health and wellbeing.

In 2010, we also published details of our Health and Nutrition Programme to detail our goals and progress to date in improving the nutritional content of our products.
